(May 17, 2019)–A sharp maiden victress when attentive to the pace going five furlongs on turf April 21, Holly and David Wilson’s Holly Hundy launched an impressive bid from off the pace today in taking Friday’s $67,000 Santa Anita allowance feature by 2 ¾ lengths under Kent Desormeaux. Trained by Vladimir Cerin, the 3-year-old daughter of Yes It’s True got today’s five furlongs on grass in 56.90.“The best horse usually wins on grass, but not by two or three lengths,” said Cerin.  “Kent says she relaxes real nice, so we’ll see how she does going two turns.”Off as the 2-1 second choice in a field of eight sophomore fillies, Holly Hundy, who is out of the Cryptoclearance mare Cryptos’ Best, paid $6.80, $4.00 and $3.60.An attentive sixth midway around the turn, Holly Hundy wheeled four-deep turning for home and appeared much the best under confident handling.“There were about four of them that were pretty aggressive, so I said, ‘See ya’ll later, I hope,” said Desormeaux, who notched his second win on the day. “She’ll definitely go two turns. She relaxes like an all-star.”With the winner’s share of $40,200, Holly Hundy doubled her earnings to $80,300 as she rang up her second win from five starts.In a three-way fight for the minors, French-bred Cavernndchipmunks proved extra game, prevailing by a half length over Devils Dance. Ridden by Flavien Prat, Cavernndchipmunks was off at 10-1 and paid $8.80 and $5.20.Devils Dance, who was ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, was off at 9-1 and paid $4.80 to show while finishing one length in front of Irish-bred Muthhila.Velvet Queen the 7-5 favorite with Tiago Pereira up, never threatened from off the pace and finished sixth.Fractions on the race were 21.28 and 45.16.Admission gates open early at 7 a.m. for a tremendous Preakness Day undercard from Pimlico Race Course on Saturday.
