NYC’s New Rooftop Venue ‘Pier 17’ Announces Live Nation As Exclusive Promoter

first_imgNew York City is about to recieve another new concert venue, Pier 17–opening up on August 1, 2018. In Manhattan’s Seaport District, the 3,400-capacity, 1.5-acre rooftop venue will have the Brooklyn Bridge as a backdrop with the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline in sight. The venue’s developers, the Howard Hughes Corporation, announced today that Live Nation will be the exclusive promoter to the new rooftop stage.Pier 17 will occupy the roof of a four-story, 400,000 square foot complex with retail, high-end restaurants by celebrity chefs, like Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Andrew Carmellini, and entertainment, including Manhattan’s first iPic Theatre, Carla Sozzani‘s concept store 10 Corso Como, the new ESPN studios, and a 50,000-square-foot food hall curated by Vongerichten. The venue’s schedule will roll out on May 7, 2018, so stay tuned!Following the damages of 2012’s Hurricane Sandy, architect Achim Menges is spearheading The Seaport District’s redesign process. According to Archirectural Digest,Menges, a pioneer in the field of robotic architecture, will bring to the project experimental technologies aplenty. The installation, inspiration for which Menges found in the wings of potato beetles, will be comprised of a robotically woven canopy that is both noncorrosive and lightweight.“Digital fabrication, advanced materials, and the latest scientific insights have a profound impact on how we think of architecture, its production, performance, and perception” explained Menges. “Our vision for the rooftop of Pier 17 is to express this in a unique, public piece of art.”Stay tuned for more news on Pier 17, as it will inevitably become of NYC’s newest treasures.
